How This Textbook Is Organized

This textbook is designed to introduce undergraduate nursing students to the research process in a logical, step-by-step way. Each chapter builds on the previous one, moving from understanding the foundations of nursing research to critically evaluating evidence and developing your own research proposal.

Examines the ethical principles, regulations, and responsibilities involved in conducting nursing research with human participants.

Provides an overview of the research process, from identifying a problem through disseminating findings.

Chapter 5: Developing a Research Questions

Although each chapter can be read independently, the chapters are intended to be completed in order. Concepts introduced early in the textbook provide the foundation for understanding later chapters, particularly when critically appraising research and developing your own research proposal.
