Current Trends in Nursing Research

Trends that influence nursing research today include:

• Community-Based Care
  There is a growing shift from hospital-centered care to care delivered in communities, such as home care, public health, and primary care settings. Nursing research increasingly focuses on how to support patients outside of acute care, improve access to services, and address social determinants of health within communities.

• Disparities in Health Care
  Health inequities related to race, socioeconomic status, geography, and other factors continue to impact patient outcomes. Nursing research examines these disparities to identify barriers to care and develop strategies that promote equity, inclusion, and culturally safe practices.

• Health Promotion
  There is increasing emphasis on preventing illness rather than only treating it. Research in this area explores interventions that promote healthy lifestyles, patient education, early screening, and disease prevention across the lifespan.

• Severity of Illness
  Patients in healthcare settings are often presenting with more complex and severe conditions. Nursing research investigates how to manage high-acuity patients, improve clinical decision-making, and enhance patient safety in increasingly demanding care environments.

• Comorbid Conditions
